I hope you enjoy these Disney's Alexander Movie Night Ideas. As I've mentioned before our family loves Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day! You can read my movie review here, and you can enter to win a copy of the movie here. To get your kids even more excited about the movie, I thought I would share a few movie night ideas with you, that tie in perfectly with the movie.
In Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (released on DVD on February 10th), Alexander is obsessed with Australia. I too, love all things related to Australia and it is my dream to vacation there one day. That's why all of my movie night ideas for this movie are inspired by Alexander's love for Australia!
After watching the movie, you can create a DIY Australian Dot Painted Washer Necklace! This is an awesome craft because it is perfect for boys and girls, and it gives you a chance to teach your children a little about the culture. To learn more about Aboriginal Dot paintings check out this site.
DIY Australian Dot Painted Washer Necklace Craft:
What you need:
- 3-4 paints (you could also use nail polish)
- Large washers
- Small tipped paint brushes
- Suede or leather cord
- Beads (optional) Note: I didn't think to check the holes in our beads and they were too small! 🙂
How you make it:
1. You can pain the silver background or you can leave it silver
2. If you do choose to paint the background make sure to allow time for it to dry completely before painting your dots
3. Use the small tipped paint brushes to apply your dot pattern (you can do random patterns like we did, or design a picture using only dots)
4. Once your washer is completely dry you can attach your cord by pushing the cord through the hole and bringing it back through the cord in your hand. Then measure and tie in a double knot at the neck. Cut off excess cord and rock your new necklace!
We also decided to make an authentic Australian dessert called Pavlova. We followed the recipe as best we could, but it isn't an American recipe and was written a little differently so we did the best we could. The look was nothing compared to the recipe site that we got it from, but everyone LOVED it, so it was still a success! Grab the recipe from the link above to try it for yourself!
It started out great!
But, it just didn't rise like his did. I'm not sure if we used the wrong corn flour or what, but it was super flat. Thankfully the kids and my husband devoured it, so it didn't go to waste!
We also enjoyed building this awesome LEGO Sydney Opera House.
